A Thor intermediate range missile launched from Cape Canaveral carried a flatter blunt nose cone designed to solve re entry for returning a nuclear warhead from space. The Air Force offered no success details, noting only the flight occurred and the nose cone differed from prior versions.
President Eisenhower underwent a simple extraction of a split upper molar at Walter Reed Hospital. Col. Robert B. Shira led the procedure with two Army dentists assisting, using local anesthesia. Doctors planned a neurological exam Saturday and a continued hospital stay for precautionary monitoring after his recent heart attack.

Construction on the $1 million Civil Aeronautics Administration Air Route Traffic Control Center at Oberlin should begin within six months. Equipment valued at $750,000 will be installed after completion in about eight months to a year, with the center expected to be ready for operation by May or June 1960. The project includes an oval U shaped building of 160 by 164 feet, three to four stories, set back 600 feet from Lorain Street. Private investors will take over construction bids and land options in cooperation with Oberlin City Council, with the investor arranging land through lease or purchase for 40 acres along Lorain Street. Bids for equipment likely around June to align delivery with building completion. The GSA will oversee land and financing while CAA coordinates.
Rep. John E. Moss accused FCC Commissioner Richard A. Mack of being unfit and urged resignation as the House subcommittee questioned Mack over alleged influence from longtime friend Thurman Whiteside. Mack denied being swayed and said he would consider resignation only if President Eisenhower asks.
