Start On CAA Building Due Within 6 Months

Construction on the $1 million Civil Aeronautics Administration Air Route Traffic Control Center at Oberlin should begin within six months. Equipment valued at $750,000 will be installed after completion in about eight months to a year, with the center expected to be ready for operation by May or June 1960. The project includes an oval U shaped building of 160 by 164 feet, three to four stories, set back 600 feet from Lorain Street. Private investors will take over construction bids and land options in cooperation with Oberlin City Council, with the investor arranging land through lease or purchase for 40 acres along Lorain Street. Bids for equipment likely around June to align delivery with building completion. The GSA will oversee land and financing while CAA coordinates.
