Death summons Elyria banker Elmer M. Rice

Elmer M Rice 48 of West Avenue Elyria president of The Elyria Savings and Trust Company died at 11 20 this morning at the Elyria Clinic after nearly a month confinement with chronic diabetes He had long served as cashier and later president of the bank and was active in civic affairs including the chamber of commerce Kiwanis Club and city treasurer He was born in Riceville Pennsylvania November 21 1961 and married Carnie J Carter He studied at Allegheny College and Eastman Business College and had operated a general store and served as railroad agent and telegraph operator before moving to Elyria in 1897 to join county treasurer staff He remained in public service and banking for decades with deep ties to local business and community groups.

Secretary Liebold Missing From Detroit Home

The state police reported Ernest G. Liebold secretary to Henry Ford has been missing from his Detroit home since yesterday afternoon. Liebold managed Ford Motor Company fiscal policies and worked with Edsel Ford on reorganizing two Detroit yachts with a 259000 investment. Ford officials and Dearborn and Detroit polo stated they had no knowledge of the disappearance.

Fatal auto crash kills two near New Albany

In Columbus and New Albany two men A E Rawlingson aged 50 and Carl J Eierman aged 45 died when their car overturned near New Albany. Arthur J Piper aged 40 of Columbus died in a separate collision here.

Elyria Chamber of Commerce Elects C. B. Smythe President

C. B. Smythe of Universal Crane Company and Thew Shovel Company was elected president of the Elyria Chamber of Commerce by the directors at their annual meeting. He succeeds W. E F. Gollmar and also serves as Ohio Chamber of Commerce director and Lorain County Share the Work Movement chairman. New officers include A. H. West as first vice president Max Goldstein as second vice president A J Robinson as treasurer and Earl D. Bacon as secretary. Jim Armitage and C. E. Tucker were added to the executive committee. The annual dinner date was referred to the executive committee for planning in the coming weeks.

Plans Made For Cattle Testing In This County

A Lorain County meeting with county state and federal officials outlined a tuberculosis testing program for about 36 000 cattle. The county budgeted 3500 dollars for two to three months of testing to keep the county on an accredited rating and sustain beef sales to Cleveland and other markets. Pastor Bates of Kipton Dies After Heart Trouble
