Syrian general says hostages rescue too risky militarily
In west Beirut Brig Gen Ghazi Kennan, Syria’s top military intelligence chief and truce force commander, said no foreign hostages are in his area and a rescue operation would be too dangerous. He noted the hostage issue is political, not military, as 26 foreigners including eight Americans are missing. He also cited Syrian takeover aims to halt sectarian bloodshed and reported clearing militia offices, killing militants, and restoring aid to Palestinian camps.
