Amherst Mayor outlines 1979 fiscal plan and projects
Amherst Mayor Anthony DePaola says the city remains in sound fiscal shape despite a drop in income tax revenue. He presented 17 1979 projects including school district boundary legislation, new housing taxes, street and park improvements, city hall repairs, water tower repainting, traffic signals, and sewer inspections. He praised last year’s council for progress and vowed to pursue capital and infrastructure needs with state funds and local measures.

Coast flood recedes as fair weather returns across coasts
The National Weather Service said a storm system that hit the Northeast and mid-Atlantic weakened and moved seaward. Flooding from Virginia to Maine should ease, aided by melting snow and lower tides from a solar eclipse. Heavy rains swelled rivers and caused widespread travel disruption across the region.
