Washington Army Clemency Board cut to five years the 75 year sentence of former Pfc. Alex Ondt of Cleveland who was court martialed for refusal to obey an officer during a Luxembourg patrol under shell and sniper fire. The board also recommended restoration to good standing, which could allow active duty return and removal of the dishonorable discharge. The review follows normal War Department clemency procedures without external pressure.
A Dixie Greyhound bus skidded off a 1h-seat embankment near Nashville injuring 48 and killing 20 year old J Marler of Old Hickory Tennessee. Among the injured and deceased were 37 former Navy men released at the Memphis Separation Center the day before the crash.
Miss Margaret Banks of 1303 East Avenue was arrested on a reckless driving charge after a collision at Fairlawn Avenue and Clark Street with Lewis Martin of Oberlin. Banks, who suffered a cracked rib, was treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital and is due in police court March 4. A second incident on Wet Avenue near Broad Street involved a right side damage to Mrs. D. Setterfield of Rochester when struck by a Beverage Distributing truck parked but from the curb.

Major John R. Lutz, 39, has been honorably discharged from the Army Air Forces at Camp Shelby Mississippi. He plans to resume civilian medical practice at North Ridgeville after service at Columbus Army Air Field, Mississippi and prior work at Elyria Memorial Hospital. He is son of John W. Lutz of Beaver Falls Pennsylvania and trained at Hahnemann Medical College and University of Pennsylvania.
James A. Brehm, 24, veteran of Guadalcanal and North Solomons campaigns with the 18th Engineers Combat Battalion, has entered the American School of Aircraft Instruction in Los Angeles for a year’s training under the GI Bill. He is son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Brehm of 41 Columbus Street, Elyria High School graduate who played basketball and football. He served two and a half years in the Army and was discharged last August.
Lorain County Education Association and Lorain County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations will hold a joint meeting at South Amherst High School on Tuesday April 9. An executive committee announced planned afternoon and evening sessions with Dr. Walter A. Zaugg of Bowling Green State University as the evening speaker.

Alvin Relerford and Einah Bridges were acquitted by jury in Judge Guy B. Finds Jet's court yesterday. They faced charges of stealing a ladies pocketbook and perfume valued at 91.25 from The Huscroch Jewelry Store on November 11, 1944. The jury deliberated for 1 hour 10 minutes after a two day trial.
