New Bridge Over Vermilion River Damaged in Flood

Vermilion Ohio February 27 The new Lake road bridge over the Vermilion river was nearly carried away by recent floods. Two large supports were washed away while the rest of the span remained intact Lumber valued at 200 dollars used in construction washed into the lake. Ice jams blocked the river and floodwaters rose three to four feet over flats and lakefronts. Several cottages shifted from foundations but were not carried away. Lorain county damsels saw no river damage though Black River tributaries flooded lowlands. Ice breakup roared over falls into Cascade Park where grounds and tennis courts stayed flooded. River speed near Lorain was about five miles per hour. Hot plant discharges prevented an ice jam at the mouth of Vermilion.
