Lorain county draft boards received letters expressing congratulations appreciation and sincere thanks to all who assisted in the third Selective Service registration on February 14 18 and 16. Governor John W. Bricker Col. C. W. Goble state Selective Service director and local board chairmen and members praised volunteers who donated time and space in public buildings churches schools factories and offices and commended state federal and business employees for aid. The letters say democracy is alive and freedom will thrive.

Court Takes Probation Requests For Lorain Offenders
Judge Guy B. Findley placed Hilbert Kyer 26 and Donald Hase lap 21 under advisement for probation after guilty pleas to statutory offenses involving a Lorain girl 44. Mayer 25 also pled guilty in a parallel case involving a 34 year old Plyra girl. Mayer’s probation hearing was continued. In Columbus a freight collision last night killed Angelo Ardit 52 and injured his wife Carolin 32 as they rode in the car.

Sugar Ration Booklets Planned for Ohio Adults and Schools
Columbus Ohio February 26 1942 sugar rationing booklets likely to begin after March 1 as state education officials say schools will issue booklets. Elementary schools will serve civilian sugar needs while high schools handle industry sugar feeds under the rationing program. Public schools will supervise civilian registrations using pupil records to estimate community populations with local boards to have data by March 5. Registration for sugar cards tentatively set for March 9. School authorities cannot determine single or married childless households and must rely on community estimates.

Reclassifying Oberlin men for army service in 1940s draft update
Oberlin's draft board revises classifications for those previously disqualified by teeth or vision as Army standards loosen.
