Pioneers and Shoregals vie for district crown in D1 action
Elyria Pioneer and Avon Lake Shoregals square off in North Olmsted for a Division I district final berth with a regional bid at Norwalk on tap. Key matchups involve Perrysburg and Toledo area rivals and a potential Strongsville rematch if Medina and Norwalk progress, while Keystone eyes St Joseph Academy and Hathaway Brown in a crowded field. The Ohio High School Athletic Association notes higher girls basketball participation this season as boys' numbers ease, and tournament hosts like Westlake plan elaborate hospitality for fans and staff. Avon Lake's Shoregals avenge a regular season loss by beating Lakewood 45-40 in the sectional title, with coach Amy Manco praising a no-injury run and senior leadership amid a tough postseason grind.
