Public worry grows over bird flu and potential U.S. impact
A Harvard School of Public Health telephone poll of 1 043 adults shows nearly 60 percent fear bird flu, with African Americans more concerned than whites. If outbreaks occur, 75 percent would cut travel, 71 percent skip public events, and 68 percent shelter at home, while 48 percent would stop eating poultry. The survey, conducted Jan 17 25, finds 87 percent worried about spread and 64 percent would seek antivirials if available, though only 2 percent would call a doctor for medication.
