Lay teachers study day unlikely to disrupt Catholic high activity

The two area Catholic high schools face little impact from a salary dispute between the Cleveland Catholic lay teachers association and the Diocese Board of Education. A planned study day Monday by CHALTA protesters is not expected to affect classes at Elyria District Catholic High School or St. Mary High School Lorain, as most teachers stay in class. The association seeks starting salaries of 6700 for bachelor’s degree holders and 7100 with a master’s, while the board proposes pay at 90 percent of public-school teacher salaries. Negotiations continue with the board noting the 6700 figure is unrealistic and could raise tuition dramatically.
