Henry McLemore reports on a chaotic train ride from Dallas to Memphis where 200 soldiers and 24 children aged four to eleven dominate cars. Children override crew, seize ice water, and trigger a scorched earth water fight as stern MPs struggle to enforce order.
A first person reminiscence recounts a crowded passenger car on a transcontinental train where children roam aisles and swing between seats. The author laments parental authority, recalls a childhood train trip with the Rochelle Fife and Drum Corps, and recalls lunches tossed from a window as excitement rises onboard. Three Red Cross first aid classes scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights at the YWCA are postponed as instructors attend a countywide instructors' course at Oberlin this week. Classes by Dr Reynolds and Mrs Hurlburt on Wednesday and Morris Brown on Thursday will resume next week. The Oberlin instructors course opened last night with over 100 registrants and runs nightly through Friday.
In Buenos Aires on February 2 Hans Damonte Tab rda, head of the Argentine Dies Committee, and Enrique Hottjer, ex Lieutenant Colonel, fought a duel at Natalie Botano’s home. Both men were wounded. Hottjer in the right hand, Tabarda in the right shoulder. They left unreconciled.
The Elvira Moore Lodge will convene at 8 p.m. Wednesday on Second Street. A refreshment social will follow as part of the meeting. The item references a West Indies cruise distance estimate and a voyage from Florida’s southeast coast to South America aboard the Epanth Matn and Tremante.
Dr. George Wald of Harvard will speak at Oberlin College Theatre on January 26 at 8 p.m. on The Visual Systems and Vitamin A. Wald first identified Vitamin A in frog and mammal retinas in 1933 and linked it to night blindness. His talk covers evolution of visual systems and vitamin usage. he has a storied career and multiple awards.
Columbus Feb 14 Court ney Burton executive director state defense council announced statewide adoption of a plan allowing households with surplus sugar to return to stores for current retail price or sell to neighbors bakeries or others with large needs. Grocers with delivery trucks may pick up excess sugar during regular runs. Eric Ferguson director of the state rationing system noted sworn statements of sugar on hand will be required when rationing books are issued within a month or six weeks.
All patriotic citizens are asked to meet at the school Thursday night February 25 at 8 p.m. to plan a campaign in agriculture for Eaton township. A speaker will be present and a general discussion will follow his talk.
Washington Feb 24 Selective Service announced new steps to cut the time between physical screening and induction. Registrants who pass the screening will be examined by army doctors and inducted immediately, with furlough if immediate service would cause undue hardship.
Criminal justice officials announce parole hearings for two inmates at London Prison Farm, scheduled for April. Paul Yuan, serving time for robbery, and Alex Berlin, jailed for theft, are the inmates up for state consideration.

Records at Randolph and Pensacola show she has prepared many soldiers for the Army and Navy, proving she handles a man-sized job with loyalty to both services.
