Cold Antarctic telescope probes space and Earth
Astronomers at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station outline the ASTRO project a six foot dish radio telescope cooled near absolute zero to study carbon in space and atmospheric ozone and greenhouse gases. Other NSF projects like SPIREX AMANDA GASP COBRA expand polar astronomy using the ice and dry conditions for continuous monitoring.
