Chicago Firefighters Reject City Agreement
Chicago firemen refuse to back a memo of agreement that would end a 10 day strike by about 4000 firefighters. The executive board delayed ratification amid questions on non binding arbitration. A rank and file vote was uncertain as two missing people were feared dead in a South Side blaze linked to the strike.

A natural gas explosion razed the Holy Trinity House of Prayer on Chicago's South Side, killing at least three people and injuring two others. The blast collapsed the building, with rescuers, 300 fire department medics and police officers aiding. A 14 year old victim and a 20 year old victim identified. others unaccounted.
