House trailer ordinance sparks local leadership clash in Amherst
In Amherst an ordinance governing house trailers created conflict between Mayor Frank Janik and City Solicitor Richard Martinek. A current case in Oberlin Municipal Court tested the provision, with Judge David Goldthorpe ruling the owner or his landowner bears responsibility. The dispute includes the 1962 Bahl trailer case and questions of residency, sewer charges, and title records. Janik sought Martinek to appeal, but Martinek declined.
