Robertson earns valor award for courage in swim bid
Elyria native Jack Robertson 25, paralyzed from the waist, received the Victoria Sporting Club International valor award for sport in the handicapped division after an 18 hour attempt to swim the English Channel ended near Cape Gris Nez due to strong tides. He swam without leg propulsion and was aided by trainer Don Philabaum. Robertson, now in Coronado Beach, California, has coached basketball, track, and softball from a wheelchair.
