As a major snow and sleet storm sweeps from New England to the Mid Atlantic, campuses, rail lines, and coastal shipping face closures. Boston, New York, and Toronto report heavy snowfall and blocked roads, with trains delayed and weather warnings in effect.
James M. Cox governor of Ohio and Democratic presidential nominee is formally announced as the party's presidential candidate at headquarters with the nomination confirmed February 2.
F Harrison of Ambus files candidacy papers for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor. Secretary of State Thad Brown may decide soon on open primary questions. Separate item notes heightened ferry danger near Staten Island and an Interstate Commerce Commission authorization for a $244 million five percent railroad issue.
Miss Eva M. Park longtime city resident and music teacher died last night at 220 Washington Terrace after a stroke. Survived by sister Mrs B F Morfoot and brother WH Park of Angeles Cal. Funeral services set for Friday at 2 PM at the family home.
In the Common Pleas Court this morning John Simko of Lorain was fined 600 dollars and sent to the penitentiary for a third liquor law violation. S C Simpkinson and Charles Martin of Belden were fined 590 dollars and costs each, Simpkinson for possession of a still and Martin for possession of liquor. Steve Leiszik of Lorain was fined 500 dollars and costs for unlawful liquor possession.
Lorain police arrested Steve Abdul after a morning argument in a bedroom at 1608 East 25th Street led to a knife stab wound in John Dailan. Abdul faces stabbing to kill charges while Dailan is charged with shooting to kill after he and Abdul fought. Dailan is badly wounded and hospitalized. a third suspect remains at large.
Cairo reports the government canceled the license once held by the late Lord Carnarvon for excavating the tomb of Tut Ankh Amon. The license continued in Countess Carnarvon's name but was rescinded after a dispute with Howard Carter, who led the exploration and closed the tomb after seizing the sarcophagus.
The new law lowers truck loads from ten tons to seven and a half tons for the spring period. Deputy Sheriff Steve Cowie is enforcing the rule to protect road safety during peak season.
In Cincinnati President George E. Pfarr of Akron opened the 30th Ohio Tisrdwate Association convention this afternoon. In Danville Illinois police traced a double tragedy to a daughter's paternity claim. A father shot and killed his daughter's mother and siblings before killing himself. In Edwardsville Illinois a miner wounded Miss Frances Spindler before killing himself.

President Coolidge agreed to withdraw from the senate the nomination of George B. Christian Jr. as secretary to the late President Harding for a $10,000 post on the federal trade commission. Democrats and progressive Republicans opposed him citing fitness concerns and alleged intimidation attempts. Christian requested the withdrawal to avoid appearing before the senate commerce committee.

From Naples Feb 20 report: a Home representative of International News Reel died during a flight over Mount Vesuvius crater. The seaplane circled the eruption, then dived nose first into the fiery summit as steam and ash rose. Searchers found no trace of the plane or crew. The disaster is described as one of the most trying in aviation history.
Premier Ramsay MacDonald told the House of Commons the government will push emergency legislation if the dock workers strike continues to protect food supplies. Officials said post office authorities will ensure foreign mail movements and employers made a new offer that strikers will respond to tonight.
