Iberia Boeing 727 crashes near Bilbao with 151 aboard

An Iberia Airlines Boeing 727 carrying 144 passengers and seven crew members crashed near Durango while approaching Sondica airport in Bilbao Spain. Initial reports listed 141 dead and six crew, later revised to 144 passengers and seven crew with scattered wreckage.

Twelve Parents Plan Federal Suit Over Strip Search Of Daughters

Twelve parents of students in Elyria announce plans to sue the School Board and involved officials over a strip search last month. The parents, who met and signed retainers with the ACLU, cancel plans to meet with the board next week to negotiate a settlement. Superintendent Calvin Leader says he has not been notified of the action and still hopes for a private meeting to resolve the issue.

Reagan apologizes to donor who gave away savings

President Reagan phoned 84-year-old Gerald Colf in Los Angeles to apologize for his charitable donations. Colf gave over $4,200 to 27 conservative groups, later stopping when his granddaughter Judy Kerrigan intervened. Some groups have refunded about $1,500.

Canine hero pup saves Eaton Township family from blaze

Thor the seven month old Australian shepherd woke owner Gloria Muscari during an early morning fire at a 50 room frame house. The dog pulled her by the hair to alert her as flames spread, enabling the family including four children and two nieces to escape with two dogs saved by responders. Chief Mel Ternes noted intense heat and smoke damage throughout the home.
