Salt supplies in Stark County cities run tight amid heavy winter use
Lorain and Elyria officials report ample but strained salt reserves as winter storms bite. Lorain has about 3,000 tons left after using 4,500 since November, aided by a new $60,000 EPA grant salt brine machine. Elyria notes a three-quarters full reserve and expanding brine use reduces chemical needs. Avon, LaGrange Township, and LaGrange Township also report lower or abundant stocks, with efforts to conserve and adapt to more severe weather this season.
