Erin Fleming’s absence blamed for Groucho Marx’s death

A psychiatrist testified that Groucho Marx deteriorated after Erin Fleming’s limited visits in 1977 and would have lived longer with her access. Dr. James Grold said Fleming revived his life and that her companionship tied Marx to hope despite family disputes over his finances and a conservatorship battle.

Indictment hailed as victory for Overtown blacks

Miami police officer Luis Alvarez was indicted for second degree manslaughter in the December fatal shooting of 21 year old Newell Johnson Jr. The arrest followed two days of racial violence, injuries to nearly 30, 37 arrests, and a shooting of a suspected looter. Community leaders called the indictment a small victory while some urged harsher charges.
