Restore Names To Voters List Order Issued in Ambiguity
Common Meas Jtrige UA. Cook issued an mandamus writ today directing the Elections to restore the names of persons whose registrations were cancelled for military service after voting in two consecutive elections. County Prosecutor William Wickens filed the suit to compel restoration of these registrations, alleging broad protections under the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Rights Act of 1940. The court set February 26 to hear why the writ should not be granted as to about 7400 registrations, with many suspected to be military service members. Election officials said they have not yet determined how many of the cancelled records were for military service.
