City council members weigh a three year gas rate ordinance to provide immediate relief. The plan sets tiered charges for the first two years and a higher base in year three, aiming for quicker uniform rates across Ohio pending Public Utilities Commission decisions.
Welsh adventurer William Guy, 23, is acquitted of killing Capt. Walter Vanderwell aboard the Carma last December. A nine jurors freed him after five and a half hours deliberation. Prosecutors sought the gallows amid disputed circumstantial evidence and identification questions.
Edgar F. Allen president and founder of the International Society for Crippled Children was reported somewhat improved today after several days of illness caused by a heart ailment. He has been confined to bed.

Committees cover budget disaster relief production general relief auditing and clothing and flour program with Miss Edith Metcalf and A L Werner in key roles.
J. B. Williams of Gulf Road narrowly escaped when a 22 caliber bullet passed through a basement door glass and lodged in the opposite wall at 9 PM yesterday. Sheriff Clarence W. Dick reported deputies searched the area but found no shooter. Williams knew of no enemies who would want him harmed.
A Lorain jury returned a verdict for Frank Wisniewski in the suit against Frank Smathers for 10000 dollars over the death of his son John 25. Smathers shot at youths near 11 p m June 21 injuring four others returning from a swim.
President elect Roosevelt and Senator Cordell Hull of Tennessee reached a likely understanding on the cabinet arrangement aboard the Roosevelt special en route to New York. Hull may become secretary of state or secretary of the treasury. the two traveled from Richmond to Washington and left the train at the capital.
Chesebrough Manufacturing declares a 50 cent extra dividend in addition to the regular quarterly of $1 a share. Aggregate resources of 6,016 National Banks reach $23.31 billion as of December 31, up $745 million since September 30. Western Auto Supply Co reports January sales of $666,862, up 4.1 percent from January 1932. Reading Company earns $1.02 per share for 1932, vs 37 cents in 1931.
Elyrian residents rush to file 1932 income tax returns. Deputy collector Stanley H. Waite notes the March 15 deadline approaches while exemptions drop and rates rise. Offices open March 1 to 15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Friday hours. Taxable income thresholds and a new four to eight percent tax plus surtax details are outlined plus deductions for charitable gifts and dependents.
A Carlisle Township Taxpayers League aims to cut taxes. The group plans a meeting at Carlisle Town Hall at 8 p m next Tuesday, with Alfred P. Grills of Columbia Station as speaker. The February 10 date was postponed due to cold weather and the event is open to the public.

It bars shipments of liquor into non selling states and requires ratification by 36 states within seven years to take effect. The plan exempts no federal liquor policing and leaves liquor policy to the states.

The Tokyo cabinet deferred final action on Japan's withdrawal from the League of Nations until tomorrow after a three hour closed session. Foreign Minister Yasuya Uchida planned further talks with Emperor Hirohito before a formal government decision, following a lengthy briefing with the emperor.
