U S proposes drone rules for small commercial aircraft
The FAA proposals seek rules for sub 55 pound drones with knowledge tests and security checks, flights up to 500 feet, speed up to 100 mph, and no flights over people. Final rules could take two to three years, with a possible separate sub 44 pound category and staged airspace integration. Privacy protections via a White House memorandum accompany the plan.

Multivehicle crash on Ohio Turnpike and I-71 deaths reported
A pregnant woman died in a multivehicle pileup that closed the westbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike east of Sandusky. Another turnpike crash about 30 miles east near the Indiana line left one dead. A separate I-71 crash in Morrow County killed a 24 year old Buffalo man. The Turnpike banned westbound traffic, spanning a 180 mile stretch, and large vehicles. About 20 vehicles were in a pileup on I 70 west of Columbus. Nine people sheltered at St Mary Parish in Elyria as a Level One snow emergency persisted and counties urged drivers to stay off roads.
