Ohio cemeteries preserve faded local histories across the state
Preservationists urge protecting tiny burial plots scattered through Ohio where pioneer families and veterans lie. The Ohio Genealogical Society notes about 16 000 cemeteries exist with 3 360 registered, while many inactive plots lack upkeep and records. Local groups restore sites from Middleburg Heights to Sinking Spring honoring governors, Civil War soldiers, and former slaves.
