UPI reports Leatherneck tanks and Marine units drove Communist troops from Hue near the Perfume River. Fire and bombardment pounded the imperial citadel as jets napalmed positions while infantry chased fleeing guerrillas into the river defenses.
UPI reporter Jim Lucas says five Soviet Bears backed off after two were spotted by US Air Force interceptors from Iceland. NORAD cited no comment as three more aircraft appeared on radar near Colorado Springs, with tension described but no panic.
Elyria City Council approved a nine item capital program to be funded by the 1 percent income tax. The plan includes street resurfacing bridges widening routes and utility projects with three projects possible to start concurrently. First reading of the tax ordinance set for Monday night, revenue projected at 1.6 million for 1969.

Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority chose a Seventh Street and Reid Avenue site for a 200 unit elderly housing project to begin work if federal HUD approval comes. Jennings & Charella of New London will build a 13 or 14 story structure pending contract and funding.

Three year old Carlos Garnica was saved after falling into a 9 inch wide hole beneath a ladder near his Harbor City home. Rescuers dug a larger shaft then cut a sideways passage to reach him at the 9 foot depth. He was recovered after two hours and reported in good condition.
Tim Wood a John Carroll University student from Cleveland emerged as a leading contender for Olympic gold as the figure skating competition opened in Grenoble France. The report notes his strong prospects amid a field of rival skaters and highlights his training and upcoming programs.
Miss Isabelle E Boyd receives the Quota International 18th Woman of Achievement at a Carey's Villa dinner marking the club’s event and its 49th anniversary. A nurse leader since 1943 at Elyria Memorial Hospital, she guided staff to high patient care while managing a 45 acre North Ridge Road farm and supporting ten siblings.
