Four disqualified in Lorain County May 6 primary
Lorain County Board of Elections disqualified four candidates from the May 6 ballot. Wilma Lucas and Davon Marie Jeffers failed to file valid signatures in Ward 6 Elyria and Ward 3 Lorain respectively. Incumbents Leanna Stark and Romolo DeBottis were disqualified under the sore loser rule after petitions were deemed invalid. Kickoff notices mailed Thursday confirm ineligibility to run or write in.

Wesleyan Village couples renew vows at Valentine's Day
At Wesleyan Village in Elyria five resident couples renewed their wedding vows during a Friday ceremony led by Rev. Kurt Walker. Couples ranged from 34 to 65 years of marriage, including Jeannette and Judson Bill ing, Clare and John Coulis, Eleanore and Dick Lehto, Martha and Irwin Wason, and Theresa and Carl Zimmerly. The event ended with a cocktail hour organized by the activity department.

Black Legacy Connection Roots in Georgia Plantations
Bush family traces its history to a Georgia plantation in Banks County. Elyria native Elyria-born Clarence Bush, who just turned 91, grew up near Wayne Street and worked at Costen Bike Shop after leaving Elyria High School. His grandfather James Bush lived in Bushville, born May 1857, later a sharecropper with Amanda after the Civil War.

No criminal charges for driver in Burns Road crash death
Elyria police say 9 year old Bryant Bartlett and 10 year old Aiden Hellend were hit by a speeding Jeep on Burns Road in October. Nico Warner, 20, will be cited for speeding a minor misdemeanor after crash reconstruction found speed above limit but no evidence that speed caused the crash. Bartlett died at the scene. Hellend survived, transported to UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Authorities noted ongoing pedestrian and bicycle safety efforts and grant talks.
