Failing to Practice Economy by Ohio Congressmen
An Elyria newspaper column criticizes Ohio members of Congress for claiming economy while enlarging personal payrolls. It cites January 1940 clerk-hire raises to 6500 dollars, noting several representatives increased aides’ salaries, with only two politicians reportedly declining or partially using the extra allowance. It accuses lawmakers of political hypocrisy and urges real cost-cutting at home.
