Northeast Ohio tilts from single digits to teens and 30s this weekend with a rebound toward normal by Monday and upper 40s by Friday. National Weather Service meteorologist Karen Oudeman notes El Nino shortens this year’s cold spells, contrasting December’s record warmth.
The piece details Fleet Walker’s life from baseball catcher to postal clerk and inventor. It notes trials for a 1891 stabbing, 1898 mail robbery conviction, and later ventures running hotels and theaters in Steubenville and Cadiz. It covers his 1908 book Our Home Colony, death in 1924, burial in an unmarked grave later marked, and ongoing efforts to honor him with a Fleet Walker Day bill and a gravestone fund by the Oberlin Heisman Club. It also mentions his brother Weldy and efforts to secure a marker via the Society of American Baseball Research.
