West Salem conflict of interest law raises village relief talk

Medina County Rep. William G. Batchelder III argues small villages like West Salem could get exceptions to conflict of interest laws to allow local officials to buy supplies quickly. The West Salem audit flagged over $4,500 in village funds from five officials, including councilman Donald Crebs who became mayor, and Dale Allison who runs the village hardware store. Batchelder contends strict rules burden villages relying on local sources for needs such as light bulbs and hardware. Further review will explore targeted exemptions for small villages.
