Nixon Trails Muskie in New Hampshire Primary Poll

A Becker Research Corp poll for the Boston Globe shows Muskie leading Nixon 48 to 42 among 1,980 New Hampshire voters planning to vote in the March 7 primary. Wallace draws 4 percent, 6 percent undecided. Nixon leads McGovern 52 to 34 in a Nixon McGovern matchup.

U S air power surged as Tet truce began in South Vietnam

U S B52 bombers conducted 27 strikes inside South Vietnam in the Tet Lunar New Year truce. A U S soldier died and three were wounded near Saigon as allied forces observed a 6 pm Saigon time cease-fire. The Pentagon said troop levels are 131200 and air power will shield withdrawing troops. Navy and Air Force planes backed B52s with 176 strafing runs, mostly in the Central Highlands, with Viet Cong violations reported early in the truce.

Bombs Hit Belfast Downtown Wreck Three Buildings

Four bombs exploded in Belfast injuring no one as the Irish Republican Army pressed its campaign. A bank an office building and a furniture store were wrecked while a paint store suffered extensive damage. Police cleared the street in time to prevent casualties. In Coleraine troops guarded the County Hall as Lord Widgery opened his inquiry into the Londonderry shooting.
