A Lincoln and McKinley birthday banquet drew over 100 Republicans who urged year‑round party work and organization. Speakers praised Lincoln and McKinley, warned of Wilson and Cox eras, and pressed the slogan Prepare today to go over the top in November with Warren G. Harding.
Elyria and Northern Ohio graduates attend the annual dinner of the University of Michigan Club of Cleveland. William Graves Sharp of Elyria, former Ambassador to France, is guest of honor. Judge Walter D. Mears is toastmaster. Judge Washburn of Ely introduces Ambassador Sharp. Undergrads Keey McDjnemid and Misty Haukes plan Arbor entertainment.
Urees Duty argues the west election will yield victory for the people not party. He denounces Governor Cox for wrecking the civil service commission, mismanaging state departments, and betraying wartime pledges while accusing Republicans of enforcing payroll loyalty. He condemns cronies and calls for law and order with Crable law support.
Justice Minister Schiffer stated Germany will arrest and try all German officers on the Allied extradition list where evidence justifies, even if Allies withdraw demands. He noted Germany has already punished war criminals in France and Belgium and will proceed with the cases using the new Liepzig supreme court.
New York reports that Ernst Fritz, a taxi driver charged with the murder of Mrs. Florence Coyne in Bronx County, saw evidence delayed as prospective juror Austin Carr refused to serve citing dislike for all taxicab drivers. The panel stood at eleven, to be completed when court resumes tomorrow. Mrs Coyne was killed in Fritzs cab.
Secretary Houston declares the treasury and the outlook for liberty bonds and victory notes bright while urging economy in national spending. He expects no immediate money crash, cites European monetary settlement as likely, and calls for private aid to European ventures to aid American business amid war capital concerns. He notes four billion dollars received since the armistice and emphasizes giving people time to save capital for loans and bank securities recovery.
John Dyke Sr, 85, longtime Elyria resident and prominent local businessman, died Thursday after a long career in farming and urban development. He and wife celebrated their 61st anniversary last June before her death recently. Survived by four sons, five daughters, sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two sisters. Funeral Monday at 2:30 at his daughter Mrs. F D Laundon’s home, 209 Sixth St, with Rev. E B Redhead officiating. burial private.

Carrie Chapman Catt predicts final enfranchisement for women, while a League of Women Voters congress begins amid tensions between Republicans and Democrats over a non partisan path for women voters and policy influence.
Columbus reports Governor Cox will not sign the municipal relief finance bill and may allow it to become law without his signature. The same sources say he plans to veto the Hopley Senate bill altering candidacy filings for U S Senate. Arthur F. Neff of Akron named assistant state director of Americanization.
