Borg cruises past Connors in Grand Slam final
Bjorn Borg defeated Jimmy Connors 6-2 6-3 to win the Grand Slam of Tennis final in Boca Raton earning $150,000. The result came amid a midweek players’ boycott threat that ended in a compromise with the International Tennis Council allowing veto power over one of six designated events and expanding exhibitions from three to six. Connors earned $75,000, while John McEnroe claimed $45,000 for third after beating Guillermo Vilas.
