Long Key Florida February 12 President Hoover's fishing trip was interrupted by a Washington order. He paused plans and stayed aboard the Saunterer to pursue a sailfish, aiming to top a recent 125 pound catch. The president’s first sailfish, weighing 45 pounds, has been skinned and readied for display at the lodge.

No successor has yet been appointed to Father Mooney who was named Spiritual Director of the Community of the Sisters of the Holy Humility of Mary at Wickliffe Olio.
Sarasota Florida February 12 Draper Daugherty son of former Attorney General Harry M Daugherty died at Halton Hospital after an emergency operation to relieve complications from an appendectomy performed two weeks earlier.

Miss Stella Bills Elyria High School algebra and geometry teacher died yesterday afternoon at her home 416 Tenth street after weeks of illness. A graduate of Elyria High School and Oberlin College class of 1912 she taught two years in Brunswick before 1914 and remained at Elyria High until last November. Survived by her mother sister and brother funeral Friday 2 45 p m at home conducted by Reverend A E Piper of First M E church burial at Ridgeway.
A 50 member Medina foremen group plans a guest night at the Medina club to learn about the Elyria club. Thurman Dusty Miller, Elyria editor, will speak at 6 34 PM at the M C A. A musical program by 12 Masonic Male Chorus members will close. Miller has spoken in 34 cities and addressed the Cleveland Rotary six times. He arrives from Chicago after a speaking engagement tonight. Invitation list includes the mayor and local business leaders.
Washington February 12 Five members of the house who have introduced resolutions to repeal or modify the Eighteenth Amendment were summoned before the judiciary committee to explain the measures at the opening today of the first prohibition hearings since 1926. George S Graham of Pennsylvania 29 year old chairman urged sponsors to state their case for the record. Sponsors include Sabbath Democrat Cochran Rep Claner Rep La Guardia Republican and Norion Sabbath's measure would create a government liquor dispensary system with states choosing wet or dry while federal control remains. Norton’s plan calls for a national referendum with a nationwide vote but states administer the plebiscite. Constitutional debate centers on whether Congress can prescribe a new amendment procedure. The committee remains predominantly dry and unlikely to endorse any resolution.

Emery Smith 21 Spruce street was struck by a car at 2:48 PM on Lodi street near Nichols court and suffered a fractured skull and two broken arms. He was rushed to Elyria Memorial Hospital in very serious condition. Witness C A Dean 317 Woodland avenue reported the incident. car driver Joe Vargo and passengers Frank Oldenburg 1521 East Avenue and John Matovich 154 Bath Street assisted the injured man.
