Koehring to close in Lorain
Koehring Co will close its Lorain division in three months affecting about 270 skilled workers. The closing operation starts next month with some business moving to the 275,000 square foot Chattanooga plant opened in 1972. Only the Shear Ball operation and a Elyria warehouse will remain, employing about 50 people. Employees may reapply at Chattanooga, though job numbers are unclear. Earlier studies considered Lorain’s feasibility, while a 1976 review also urged remaining in Lorain for fabrication and machining of friction cranes.
