Crash destroys pole and triggers Elyria power outage
A driver crashed into a utility pole on Olive Street between Taylor and Cleveland in Elyria causing the pole to shear and fall onto the car. Main power lines dropped and a transformer blew on Taylor Street. Power was out on both sides of Cleveland and FirstEnergy crews worked to restore it. A female driver and two children escaped with possible hospital transport as a precaution.

One killed in blast at Medina Village Apartments
An 18-year-old man with special needs died in an explosion and fire at the Medina Village Apartments on Springbrook Drive. Fire Chief Bob Painter said about a quarter of the eight-unit building was blown apart with the upper floor collapsing onto the bedridden resident. Firefighters arrived to a heavy blaze at 3:18 a.m. and used a machine to move debris to recover the victim. his parents were seriously injured.
