Controversy Persists After Blackwell Exit in Ohio Office

In Columbus Democrat Jennifer Brunner, the new secretary of state, accuses the office of backlogged tax mailings, $80,000 in late bonuses to Blackwell aides, missing transfer documents, and shredded paperwork. She seeks audits, statewide voting machine retests, and a reckoning of the Blackwell era as she distances from the 2004 election turmoil. Blackwell, absent in Washington, has supporters who say Brunner exploits party distrust to promote herself.
