Virginia jihad case opens in Alexandria over paintball linked plot
Four U S citizens from the Washington suburbs face trial on conspiracy to aid the Taliban and other crimes. Prosecutors say the group formed a militant cell after meetings with Ali al Timimi while some members played paintball near Fredericksburg. Defense lawyers deny Islamic motivation, arguing the men intended no harm and that al Timimi’s talks were not persuasive. The lead defendant Khan faces the gravest charges of waging war against the United States and aiding al Qaida. Six others have pleaded guilty to related counts.
