The SS Command reports Cambodia captured five U S sailors who drifted across the Vietnam Cambodia border on the Mekong River. The men were disoriented at night and taken to a Cambodian naval base. Cambodia has previously seized U S boats in 1968 and released crews after diplomacy.
The Associated Press reports Israeli and Egyptian aircraft traded strikes across the northern Suez Canal amid a regional summit in Cairo. Israel claimed two Egyptian MIG21s shot down. Egypt claimed one Israeli Phantom. Both sides reported aircraft losses and confirmed pilots ejected or crashed during the exchanges.
A Canadian conservation group says it will stage a floating blockade near Amphitka Island in the Aleutians to stop future underground tests. James Bohlen of the Sierra Club of British Columbia says the group will charter an ocean going vessel and position it close to the blast site, challenging any US test to tow them away.
Washington United Press International reports the US Weather Bureau marks its 100th anniversary by expanding forecast coverage to daily five day outlooks instead of three times weekly. A Monday evening forecast will cover Monday night through Saturday with trends for temperature and weather. The change leverages improved computer prediction advances.
A Lorain man, father of four, was found dead in his car with the motor running. Coroner Paul J Kopsch ruled the death accidental from carbon monoxide poisoning, with time of death around 7 am. The victim, David Morris of 219 Oberlin Ave, worked with Billy Dingus at Ave Concrete Wall Co. His wife and four children are in West Virginia.

Officials in Edgartown Mass searched for the source of an oil slick washing ashore on South Beach killing ducks loons and other birds. Clergymen led volunteers to rescue soaked birds as scores joined the effort yesterday on the 20 mile stretch.
Senate subcommittee leaders fault Ohio nursing home fire rules after the Marietta Harmar House fire injuring 12. They cite lack of carpet and curtain standards and question inspector counts. Hearings target Flammable Fabrics Act gaps and call Commerce to justify enforcement.
Government directive orders 4 shattered tankers to be burned to end oil slicks in the North Atlantic. Imperial Oil says heavy Grade C globules hamper ignition as the 6 000 ton tanker grounded near Cerberus Rock spills across four miles of spill area northeast of New York to Halifax region. Transport Minister Don Jamieson considers flying to Nova Scotia to oversee the operation.
A weekend of deadly crashes claimed 22 lives, the highest total of the year and among the worst in recent months. Incidents near Genes and Circlestile each killed two people, with five pedestrians among the deceased. Half the fatalities occurred in northeastern Ohio.
