Elyria Fire Salaries Highlight Shortage and Risks
Elyria firefighters face low pay and equipment gaps while Lorain pays higher base salaries. Lt. Albert G. Andress died in a Thursday night blaze after 43 years on the force, earning 5400 annually as lieutenant. Capt. Robert Curtin earns 5616 as captain. Lorain’s captains earn about 7200, while Elyria’s lieutenants and captains trail, fueling claims Elyria is a cheap town for city workers. The piece contrasts training, equipment needs, and calls for updated facilities including masks, drill towers, and continued OsU education program adoption.
