County treasurer Arthur Waters announced taxes will be accepted Monday for Elyria city Elyria township and Carlisle with two weeks to pay before books close. Lorain rate ready early next month. Sheffield Lake values set to aid Lorain rate. Avon township re appraisal ongoing and due in a few days.
The House Judiciary Committee opens a preliminary inquiry to determine if Federal Judge Frank Cooper of the Northern District of New York should be impeached over alleged participation in a narcotics trap. Representatives Laguardia and Celler have introduced resolutions charging Cooper with encouraging abetting law violations. The committee previously adopted a resolution impeaching Federal Judge George W. English of the Eastern District of Illinois for alleged tyrannical conduct. English resigned as the Senate prepared to try him.
Heidelberg defeated Akron 22 to 20 in a notable basketball win. After the game Tiffin students paraded to Armstrong field and set off a pile of weed and boxes, triggering a fire that required fire crews. Chief Crogis ordered an all night search. the vehicle was found by a creek on campus.
The jury to try Ben Budner a missionary bootlegger was sworn this afternoon. Seven panel members were selected and ordered to assist by viewing the murder scene and related sites. A nearby stove caused a small gasoline fire injuring Mrs Hummer and her daughter slightly while attempting to extinguish it.
Washington reports American Minister Fred M. Deering abandoned the Lisbon legation after rifle and machine gun fire. The State Department says the Portugal revolution is very serious and US warships may be sent if Americans are endangered. Deering and staff are safe as fighting continues with government forces gaining ground in Operta and Lisbon.
Tahil a Moro rebel who escaped Philippine constabulary forces surrendered in Manila. Gov General Leonard Wood announced the arrest and said the remaining two rebels at large would likely be captured soon. Princess Tarhata Kiram, daughter of the Sultan of Sulu, fled with Tahil but was later found alone on a Jolo mountainside.
The Camden township farm rally will be held at the Kipton town hall on February 11. The principal speaker will be C. B. Rowland county agricultural extension agent, as part of preparations for the Farm Bureau membership campaign.
Police seek Rom Aberhaizt, 20, of 226 West River who left home Saturday afternoon to go to Lorain and has not been seen since. He is five feet eight inches tall with a light complexion and a small mustache.
Gov. Donahey fired a brief retort in Columbus to charges raised by Myers Y. Cooper of Cincinnati Republican for governor. He mocked Cooper for alleged ignorance of state affairs and questioned his suitability for the job.
Harry T. Waters, back from reporting letters to Governor Donahey, claims a state wide slot machine graft exists in Ohio. Waters accuses G W Snyder of embezzling 60 dollars and says the scheme paid officials to place machines across the state.
Lorain residents John Popp Wick Puskan and Nick Cucu were fined in federal court in Cleveland for liquor charges. Popp paid 700 dollars, Puskan 400, and Cucu 3800 plus costs. All three pleaded guilty. co-defendants Nerekes James and Anderksy pleaded not guilty. Trial date not set.
Henry Ford declared prohibition “the greatest boon in the world to the working man” after leaving the White House. He cited plant surveys showing success and commented on industrial conditions, planning to visit Thomas Edison in New Jersey and avoiding discussion of a tax appeal and billionaire status. He praised President Coolidge and noted Ford’s health as excellent.
Donald Dean paid a $50 fine and costs after pleading guilty to driving an automobile while intoxicated. He received thirty days in county jail but the sentence was suspended by Mayor Harry Hinkson on condition of good behavior. Dean had earlier pleaded not guilty but opted to end the case quickly.
In Lorain on February a 22 year old Theodore Tilliquette was killed by a .22 caliber revolver he owned. Officials say the weapon discharged when his clothes brushed the trigger as he prepared to retire, the gun lying on a bedroom table.
Four youths were indicted by the Marion County grand jury on a series of local burglaries. Named defendants are John Erwin 18 Arthur Erwin 20 Albert Simpkins 15 and George Kesselring 16. Arraignment is planned for Friday or Saturday.

Bolton, floor leader, will tell Governor Donahey an open floor vote will be given to all appointments if the nominations are sent up now. Donahey has refused to act until the senate considers Wellington T. Leonard and other industrial commits nominees. The move aims to finish the appointment docket before February 21, freeing the session for legislative pork.
Chicago reports a cold spell as Stocky Mountain air drives temperatures down below freezing. Forecasters note possible snow with no spring warmth in sight while the government in Térasia presents a new energy plan amid the chill.

Contents of a safety deposit box in Ames reveal that Chris W. Ney 60 former provincial governor of the Philippines died in a hospital. Ney was noted as a scholar editor soldier and politician but spent the last four years living a secluded life as a common laborer. Death attributed to injuries while at work.
In Columbus on February 8 the Republican plan moves to redirect gasoline tax receipts for highway construction the state would get 50 percent of the tax with the rest split among counties and city uses a legislative change also limits the state share for highway use. The measure faces committee delays and opposition over broader university funding implications and funding for existing institutions.
Mahala Huff aged 108, the oldest pensioner on the government rolls and one of 77 surviving widows of War of 1812 veterans, died with her son Henderson Wells in a Kentucky home near Louisa after 44 years. Pension records show she was widow of James Hult, a private in Captain G W Camp's company of Virginian troops.

Managua February 9 After a terriffic battle hundreds killed or wounded conservative government forces reasserted control of Chinandega as rebels fled toward the mountains. Diaz government reports say about 2600 federals surrounded 804 rebels at the cuartel and attacked with machine guns bayonets and machetes.
American aviators with Diaz forces are accused by Dr. Pedro Zepeda of bombing Chinandega during the Liberal Conservative clash. He says Costa Rican messages confirm the attack and that prominent figures including Ricardo Lopez Callejas were killed or wounded as the city burned amid shifting control. Dispatches note trains carrying troops and wounded travel to reinforce government forces.
A two year old boy named Noble Beard wandered from his mother on Chestnut Street and was found hours later on East Avenue. Police reunited him with his mother after a brief wait at headquarters.
