The Senate adopted the Copeland resolution urging President Coolidge to invite operators and miners to the White House for a conference to press an immediate settlement of the anthracite coal strike. The vote was 65 to 21 amid partisan debate as Democrats rallied with insurgent Republicans to back the move.
Guy Hiner president of Hiner Steel Company was shot seven times as he parked in his garage behind his home on Logan Avenue. He fired back but cannot tell if either assailant was hit. Hiner believes the attackers are friends of four bandits he led against three years ago, who were killed after a posse confrontation.
Several injured as a mob of about a thousand unemployed including women and children attacked the Camberwell Workhouse in London’s suburb last night. Police repulsed the rioters after fierce clashes. the crowd aimed to seize the workhouse and convert it into a communal home. Rioters complained relief funds in Camberwell were smaller than in nearby districts.
The Nickle Plate railroad has placed automatic electric signals at Oberlin avenue Long avenue and Washington avenue. Lights flash and bell rings when trains are approaching.
German Foreign Minister Stresemann rebutted Mussolini in a Reichstag address denying oppression in South Tyrol and condemning Italian threats. He defended the League of Nations and Locarno spirit while denouncing an Italian boycott and press campaign against Germany.

A day light burglary at W. W. Frank’s Gray Block flat yesterday between 8 and 12 o clock yielded a loot valued around 500 dollars. Items stolen include a diamond ring a pearl necklace a wedding ring a garnet set four dozen silver knives and forks spoons an overcoat and a leather lined traveling case. Mrs Frank left a door key under the mat and returned to find the apartment ransacked. Police have no suspect.
A slain unidentified girl found in a snow drift on East 54th Street remains unnamed. Detectives widened their inquiry by questioning Broadway night club patrons while a wounded man, Charles Mitchell, 28, is treated at Bellevue Hospital and ruled out as a suspect.
Mayor James J. Walker of New York may require complete rest due to illness that has troubled him in recent days. The assessment came from Dr. William H. Walker, the mayor's brother, during a visit in Albany, New York.

Wm. Butler, 21, a Negro, was convicted of criminally assaulting Lenora Steinmetz, 12, in Georgetown on Jan. 21 and will be hanged at a convenient place in Sussex county between 10 A M and 3 P M on February 26. The jury reached its verdict in 112 minutes and Butler was quietly escorted from the courthouse as a mob gathered outside.
General John J. Pershing arrived aboard the government cruiser Denver in West, February 1, after serving as chairman of the Tacna Arica plebiscitary commission in Chile. He appeared pale and slowed, bidding farewell to Denver officers, then planned to report to the President in Washington and enter Walter Reed hospital.
Mrs W. S. Neuman narrowly escaped death on Oberlin avenue when her stalled auto halted on Nickle Plate tracks. She leaped clear as a fast passenger train bore down, uninjured but terrified. the car was wrecked.

London February report states an abortive attempt to assassinate Prime Minister Primo de Rivera. The Gibraltar dispatch says the assailant targeted a train carrying General Franco during travel from Madrid toward Metta. The incident disrupted the journey and remained under investigation.
