Vandals destroy Bainbridge home in Debbie Drive rampage

North Ridgeville police report intruders entered through an unlocked kitchen window at 6455 Debbie Dr and wrecked most belongings. They smashed a TV, dumped drawers, shattered glass, spilled food, ruined clothes with a fire extinguisher, clubbed the stove, and fired a shotgun and rifle in a bedroom. Bainbridge, a Polaris Vocational Center teacher, returned at 4 pm to a devastated home.

Three Million Accord Reported in Beverly Hills Club Inferno

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports an out of court settlement exceeding 3 million already agreed to by the Beverly Hills Supper Club owners Richard J. Schilling family and 4 A Corp. The suit stems from the 1977 fire that killed 165 at the Kentucky club near Cincinnati. Plaintiffs would receive all 4 A Corp assets and the 44 acre site, plus over 1 million in liability and 600 thousand in fire insurance. The Schillings would keep assets valued around 500 thousand including a Park Hills home and a Florida condo.

Battisti desegregation test on $500 fine ruling

Cleveland AP report notes U.S. District Judge Frank J. Battisti could press the authority in the Cleveland school desegregation case after fining the board $500 a day for not filing an amended pupil conduct code by the Monday deadline. The stay of desegregation actions remains due to a circuit court ruling.

Chinese and Soviet fleets near Vietnam border clash reported

UPI dispatch from Tokyo cites The Yomiuri Shimbun that China massed hundreds of MiG fighters along the Vietnamese frontier while Soviet and U.S. Pacific fleets were spotted in the South China Sea. Four Chinese soldiers were killed in border clashes. Teng Hsiao-ping warned Beijing would counter Hanoi and criticized Soviet policies. Hua Kuo-feng may visit four Western European nations this year.

Mom avoids jail as court orders ex to pay support

Maude Frances Belknap faced possible jail for non support in a Domestic Relations hearing led by Judge Henry T. Webber. The judge ordered the ex husband to resume regular payments for their daughter in private Columbus school, deferred action against Belknap, and noted the past due amount was reduced after bureau error. Belknap, unemployed year, credited readers and her five adult children for aid.

Lackawanna High School swimmers faced Amherst High in a scheduled home meet. Amherst failed to arrive two minutes before the start, prompting a likely forfeit for the Lackawanna team which had not won a meet in five years.

Sadat accepts Carter bid for Mideast mini summit

Egyptian President Anwar Sadat accepts President Carter's invitation to resume Israeli Egyptian peace treaty talks in the United States later this month.
