Preacher from Temperance now in Elyria
The Rev. Jeffrey Smale, raised in Temperance Michigan, becomes pastor of Victory Baptist Temple in Elyria. He describes a late calling after studying electronics, a path through jail ministry and nursing home work, and says believers must die to self and seek to live for Christ while engaging with the world. Smale aims to grow the church from its about 70 members and meet spiritual needs with patient leadership.

Study finds few conservative Christians anti Jewish attitudes
A 1000 person survey by the Anti Defamation League found 90 percent of conservative Protestant respondents firmly disagree that Christians are justified in holding negative attitudes toward Jews. Only 8 percent agreed that God does not hear Jewish prayers, and 5 percent admit unfavorable views of Jews. The report notes major changes since 1966, with conservatives showing more positive or neutral perceptions toward Jews and rejecting overt anti Semitic stereotypes.
