O'Rourke Freed After Lack of Evidence in Wife's Death

North Vietnamese Artillery Opens Fire on Khe Sanh Area

North Vietnamese artillery shelled the Khe Sanh area for the first time in the current operation, hitting the Rock Pile outpost nine miles northeast of Khe Sanh. One U.S. soldier was killed and three wounded as three South Vietnamese outposts were hit by mortars and shelling increased nearby. If shells came from Laos, it signals possible escalation near the Laos border.

Irish prime minister declares state of war in Belfast

Prime Minister James Chichester-Clark declared war on Irish Republican extremists after a night of heavy shooting in Belfast. Two civilians were hit by bullets and a 14 year old boy lost a hand from a bomb attack, as troops and armored cars sealed Crumlin Road and riots spread to Londonderry. London said 600 new troops would join Ulster forces amid the worst violence in years with four killed Friday night and Miss Bernadette Devlin jailed earlier.
