Gov. Voinovich warns all parts of the school plan that fail to secure enough money risk cuts beyond the next budget. The Chronicle lists sections on Lottery NASCAR and opinion, with sports and TV content noted in the page layout.
Ford Motor Co will dismantle a new 250 million Lorain Assembly paint shop and ship equipment to Dearborn, Michigan for use at the Dearborn Assembly Plant. A Ford team will review what moves, with months before action. Lorain's Thunderbird and Cougar lines are ending, but plant not closing. UAW Local 425 says preliminary talks occurred this week and will continue next week.
Elyria residents recount dangerous elevator incidents at Riverview Plaza where a 66 year old woman faced daily options of riding the elevator or staying imprisoned in her fourth floor apartment. Firefighters say the building has seen 12 elevator rescues since January 1997 with six this year. A 70 year old man was carried down nine flights after both elevators failed.
Bobel's Office Plus will close its Elyria and Lorain outlets and merge with the former Rini Rego Stop-n-Shop at 1945 Cooper Foster Park Road in Amherst by next summer. The Sandusky store at 2111 Cleveland Road remains open. Lorain County will pay 300000 for Bobel buildings at 348 Second St Elyria and Bobel Building Co holds the properties.
The Rite Aid under construction at Cleveland Avenue and Leavitt Road in Amherst will gain an access lane to ease traffic. Mayor John Higgins said the lane will run from Good Shepherd Baptist Church to Leavitt Road, funded by Rite Aid and an undeveloped adjacent property.
Washington AP attorney for President Clinton's secretary Betty Currie denies any effort by the president or others to influence her testimony. The White House says Clinton met Currie to jog memory after his deposition in Paula Jones suit. The New York Times says Currie told investigators Clinton led her through an account differing from her recollection.
