Mayo Clinic study shows hospital noise disrupts patients sleep
Researchers at Mayo Clinic in Rochester measured night noise in three empty rooms and found peak levels at 113 decibels during shift changes. Reducing noise by quieter doors and silencing clipboards cut peaks to 86 decibels and averages from 45 to 42 decibels. Nurses including Cheryl Cariel and Dawn Gasser conducted the study, published in the American Journal of Nursing.
