Disputed letter a shriek of pain

In White Plains Jean Harris testified in Tarnower murder trial denying killing the physician to stop his marriage to another woman. The defense read a ten page letter in which she called Lynne Tryforos a psychotic whore and described their rivalry as a shriek of pain. She admitted seeking a quiet moment with Tarnower before the killing but claimed the shooting occurred during a struggle when she meant to kill herself.

Methodists to unite with Auto Workers in sought union

Twenty six employees of the United Methodist Church Board of Global Ministries disclosed Wednesday they are forming a union to win pay hikes denied. The action echoes a prior union drive by National Council of Churches staff two years earlier. In a letter to acting general secretary Betsy Ewing the workers urged moral and ethical responsibilities alongside legal obligations.
