Landowners attend meeting on proposed turnpike route

About 200 landowners, largely farmers, gathered at South Amherst High School to learn about issues arising from the Ohio turnpike. Engineers showed strip maps, outlining route details and potential minor right of way changes, while officials explained traffic, interchanges, and cost estimates around 283 million dollars for the 240 mile project.

Elyria asked to set bulk water price for Ridgeville

The Lorain County Commissioners asked Elyria to sell bulk water to the county for resale to Ridgeville. The request was referred to the finance committee. A 10 year contract would meter water at the corporation line, with the county building and maintaining a line to Ridgeville.

Fatal Accident At Intersection Being Investigated

County authorities continued their investigation into a three way crash at Grafton and Fuller roads at 1 42 pm yesterday. Casper Joseph Madro age 65 of West Ridge road died from a fractured skull. A truck owned by C A Olsen Mfg Co and driven by Charles Cotton collided with Dangerfield’s eastbound car, causing the truck to jackknife and strike Madro’s northbound car. Dangerfield and other witnesses gave similar accounts. The crash damaged Fell and Yost grocery and gas station and sparked a small fire extinguished by Carlisle fire department.

Afton Seeks Use of Elyria’s Fill for Garden Street Dump

Mayor BE Toghill of Tafton told Elyria City Council at night that Tafton seeks permission to use the unitary fill on Garden Street for garbage dumping. Tafton would pay for dump use and haul the garbage themselves. The request was tied to the utilities committee by President Y.

Bus Drivers Vote To Continue Strike At Central Greyhound

Cleveland drivers of Central Greyhound Lines approve continued walkout after threats of firing leaders. They had briefly voted to return but rejected action amid no strike clause concerns. UN Warns Against False Hope In Korean Armistice Talks

UN and North Korean Chinese negotiators open item five talks in Panmunjom with North Korea likely to demand inclusion of China and North Korea in the UN. Gen Nam Il may submit principles and seek withdrawal of foreign troops and a political peace conference to redraw the Korean boundary. A UN radio broadcast warns that despite some progress, the Reds have not shown genuine willingness for a fair peace, urging caution against optimism. City Auditor's Clerk Resigns After Long Service

Prof Kepler to speak at Federation of Men's Clubs dinner

Thomas Kepler professor of New Testament at Oberlin Graduate School of Theology will be guest speaker at the Federation of Men's Clubs annual dinner Thursday February 21. Kepler author editor and lecturer has taught across the country and held coaching and refereeing roles in athletics earlier in his career. Assembly Adjourns After Vote at UN Korea Debate

The United Nations General Assembly adjourned its three month session at 2 13 pm after a 51 to 5 vote to postpone any Korea debate until an armistice is concluded or until Communism loses momentum. Ernest A Gross said the U S seeks an armistice but would not shift talks to the UN, while Soviet delegate Jacob Malik urged immediate debate to break Panmunjom deadlock. Truman Name To Remain On Ballot In New Hampshire

President Truman will keep his name on the New Hampshire presidential ballot after advice from Democratic leaders. He told Secretary of State Enoch Fuller he would not remove his name and reiterated his previous stance that primaries are nonbinding and he would decide on reelection when ready.
