Judge Nye Withdraws Candidacy Leaving Field Open

Probate Judge Horace H. Nye withdraws from the Republican primary race for reelection to the probate and juvenile court post, leaving opponent Municipal Judge Malcolm Thomson in a contested field while Nye notes he will not pursue an independent bid. Nye this term ends Feb 9 1949 after 12 years in office with a yearly salary over 7100. Funeral plans are set for John Woodall 4 and his brother Donald 3 who died in a trailer fire started by an oil stove.

Miss Lois Davis daughter of A. Davis 229 West Bridge Street was among the nurses passing the State Board examination. A 1944 Elyria High School and People's Hospital Akron School of Nursing graduate, she is on the People's Hospital Nursing staff and expected to continue there. Seniors to take scholarship test across Lorain County

High school seniors from Lorain County will gather at Lincoln Gage at Elrma High School for the statewide general scholarship test. Top 30 percent of the graduating class qualify. Exam covers English history mathematics science and reading starting at 9 am with a 50 cent fee. Ohio State University agr iculture test at 1 pm at 426 West Third Street is free for senior boys.

Lorain Plant Names New Supt Urquhart of National Tube

Robert Urquhart named general superintendent of Lorain Works National Tube Company a United States Steel subsidiary. He succeeds Bradford C Colcord who resigned to become president of Woodward Iron Birmingham Als. Urquhart has worked for US Steel since 1914 rising to open hearth supervisor and later assistant general superintendent at Homestead Works.

Four Family Members Killed in Ohio Train Crash near Belpre

Four members of a Porterfield family in Ohio were killed when their automobile was struck by a Baltimore and Ohio passenger train near Belpre. Victims identified as E. P Carson a farmer and property owner and sons Eddie 22 George 15 and John 13.

Two Elyria Workers Injured In Plant Explosions Fire

Three Elyria men were hurt as two small General Industries buildings were wrecked by blasts and fire at the plant late last night. The facility was shut down today with damage estimated in the thousands. Gail Wolf 34 and Lee Reed 60 suffered burns, while fireman Ora Lysaght was injured when a window was broken as he entered the scene. Reed and Wolf received hospital treatment. Lysaght did not. The first alarm sounded at 10:06 p m and a second eight minutes later summoned all city units.

Orville Wright Leaves 300000 To Oberlin College

Orville Wright leaves Oberlin College a 300000 bequest in his will, and states the Wright airplane may stay in England’s South Kensington Museum unless he later withdraws it. He also provides for Mabel Beck, his secretary, to receive 3000 yearly for life, and for Carrie Grumbach a 2000 annual stipend plus the estate to be divided among relatives.
