Traffic delays and icy roads after snowfall

Elyria police reported eastbound traffic backed up about eight miles to Middle Ridge Road before it was rerouted around interchanges. Route 2 eastbound reopened and salted about 10 45 p m. Police noted a flurry of minor accidents from the morning snowfall with slick I-71 conditions in Cuyahoga Bay.

Rampage at New Mexico Prison Leaves At Least 32 Dead

Police recovered grisly remains after a Sunday prison takeover at the New Mexico State Penitentiary. About 800 inmates remained outside the riot area in subfreezing conditions as guards and National Guard units searched fire-ravaged wings for more victims. Initial counts cited 32 dead with fears of higher toll as burned records hindered tallying.

Khomeini signals talks on hostage release amid regional echoes

Crime in Elyria up 20 percent in 1979

Elyria police reports show a 20 percent rise in crime for 1979, with rapes and robberies highlighted as areas of concern.
