Ohio budget plan toughens costs on state workers and care facilities
The proposal raises a 10 percent deduction for state workers health and life coverage and sets new fees for hospitals while cutting Medicaid reimbursement rates for nursing homes. Coalition leaders warn the plan could bankrupt facilities and reduce skilled care. Governor Strickland backs prison funding but seeks reforms to shrink inmate growth. A key goal is restoring passenger rail service among Cincinnati Columbus and Cleveland with future high speed aims.

Apollo to become new Oberlin performance space
Friends of the Apollo led by DeVito Perlman and Jonathan Demme plan phase two renovations to turn the historic theater into a community venue while keeping ownership with a college subsidiary for tax reasons. Funding comes from Oberlin alumni and donors including the Steel and Burrows families, the Goldring and Nord foundations, and Robert Lemle. The Apollo, built in 1914 by William Hobbs, is part of the Downtown Oberlin National Register Historic District and is hoped to host theater, music, and cinema studies events for students and faculty.
